Nipple pain - what's normal & what's not? Slight discomfort during the first few weeks is not uncommon as the nipple may be sensitive due to new, excess stimulation. However, there is a difference between sensitivity and pain. Pain that persists throughout a feed or is causing damage to the skin is a sign that an adjustment is needed.
