Lauren’s Story

Sharing our stories helps us connect. Our stories hold power and let others know they are not alone. Nurture has asked families to share their feeding journeys with us. Below is Lauren’s story. Enjoy 🙂

Tell us a little about your feeding journey

Ben and I have almost made it to my goal of breastfeeding for a year! It’s been a beautiful experience but hasn’t come without some bumps in the road. I’m so proud of us! With my first, I was so overwhelmed with everything that comes with being a first-time mom, that I didn’t have the brain space to seek support from an IBCLC. So I ended up EPing for him for a year (something that I am also proud of). This time around, I wanted to reclaim my breastfeeding journey. I felt empowered and much more knowledgeable as a second time mom. Nursing Benjamin has been both a privilege and sacrifice that I couldn’t be more honored to do.

How did IBCLC lactation care impact you?

Contrary to what society may say, breastfeeding didn’t come natural to me. In the newborn days, it took a lot of persistence for us to get to a place where it felt manageable and pain free. Thanks, in part, to the help of Julie at Nurture, Ben and I have had a wonderful breastfeeding journey. When Ben was 9 months, Julie was a life-saving resource who helped me seek the right resources to diagnose and treat sub-acute mastitis.
