Stephanie’s Story

Sharing our stories helps us connect. Our stories hold power and let others know they are not alone. Nurture has asked families to share their feeding journeys with us. Below is Stephanie’s story. Enjoy 🙂

Tell us a little about your feeding journey

My feeding journey was very different with my second child than with my first. I used Nurture after both births. This time I had experienced painful latching from the start, and continued to notice some inefficiencies with my little girls feeding as time went on. We faced many challenges including short feeds, spit up/throw up, fussy at the breast, clicking, bottle refusal, weight loss with bottles. My successes have been a successful post tongue and lip tie release with follow up exercises, now taking the bottle much more efficiently and with better mechanics thanks to help from Nurture! It is surprising to me how very stressful every component of feeding was and how very different two breastfeeding journeys can be!

How did IBCLC lactation care impact you?

It helped me significantly. I felt very overwhelmed going back to work and knowing my baby wasn’t taking bottles. It felt like there were many components to address and lactation care gave me the support, guidance and reassurance that I needed to keep moving along in my breastfeeding journey.

What advice you would want to pass along to an expecting parent?

Trust your gut! Sometimes it is hard to know and do everything on your own, so seek help when needed. Always know that you are doing a great job even on days where it feels very stressful.

Thank you, Stephanie, for sharing your feeding journey story!
