Allyson Wessells, PT, IBCLC
Allyson completed a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Ohio University in 1997, and a Master of Physical Therapy degree from Northwestern University in 1999. After welcoming her first child in 2007, she became a La Leche League leader. Through this role she discovered how much she loves working with new families as they learn about breastfeeding, and that a gap in lactation care exists within our healthcare system. She pursued specialist certification, becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2014. As a physical therapist and a lactation consultant, she values helping others understand how our bodies move for optimal health. Allyson can also be found advocating for families, and educating lactation and medical professionals throughout the city. She is currently serving as President (2019-2021) for the Ohio Lactation Consultant Association (OLCA).
Allyson lives in Upper Arlington with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys hiking and traveling. Special interests include assessing and treating conditions such as torticollis and tongue tie, as well as identifying and improving infant developmental challenges that can impact breastfeeding. Julie Oberholzer, MPH, IBCLC
Julie has a background in Psychology and Sociology with a Master of Public Health degree from George Washington University, where she specialized in Maternal and Child Health. While completing this program, she discovered her passion to improve health outcomes through the most basic preventative healthcare measure: Breastfeeding. Julie has worked in the lactation field for over a decade. In 2009, she became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She sat on the board as the Vice President of Lactation Consultant Association of Greater Washington from 2011-2013 and is a member of the Ohio Lactation Consultant Association (OLCA). Throughout her career, she has worked in hospital postpartum, labor and delivery, and NICU departments, as well as several private practice settings. Julie brings a calm presence; striving to meet each family where they are in their feeding journey and helping them find their confidence.
Julie lives in Bexley, Ohio with her husband and three kids. She enjoys traveling with her family, baking gluten free treats, and practicing yoga. Her special interests include: health disparities, community-based care, and postpartum depression/anxiety. Learn more about Julie here!
When Allyson and Julie first crossed paths they soon discovered how much their areas of expertise and their approach to working with families complemented each other. In 2018, they co-founded Nurture Columbus to better serve families around Central Ohio!
